Civil Defense Organization Presidency and International Universities Search and Rescue Council Presidency carried out “National Disaster Management Workshop” and “Evaluation Meeting”in coordination with member universities on behalf of forming “Disaster Resistant Society” on 12-13 October 2017. Each year events for “World Disaster Risk Reduction Day” are organized on a conceptual framework by the United Nations (UN) on October 13.On the agenda of the “Decreasing the Number of People Affected by Disasters” set by the UN for this year, National Disaster Management Workshop was held under the subheadings “Natural Disasters” which was held at Hall 1and “Human-induced Disasters” at Hall 2 on October 12, 2017 between 10: 00-17: 00 at the Near East University Library.
Within the scope of the workshop program attended by the participants from the Ministry, institutions and organizations,Assist. Prof. Dr. Şölen KÜLAHÇI, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ertan AKÜN and Assist. Prof. Dr. Afet ARKUT from Cyprus International University, Yusuf EKER from the Civil Defense Organization Presidency, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah EKİNCİ from Lefke European University and Assist. Prof. Dr. Bertuğ AKINTUĞ from Middle East Technical University made a presentation.
Presentations in the workshop program were made under the sub titles as follows: “Refugee and Migration Movements, Industrial Accidents, Organized Industrial Zones and Problems, Disaster Management System in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Geological Disasters, Biological Disasters and Climatic Disasters”.
Following the revision of the detailed report on the problem areas and solution proposals, which were held on October 13, 2017 and the summary of the workshop results was presented, the report will be made available to the public as well as to the relevant governmental levels.
After the evaluation meeting, a plaque, thanks and participation certificate was presented to the moderator, academicians and all participants who contributed to the workshop.
